SAT考試要求考生寫出具有深刻洞察力的文章。對於SAT這類強調思辨的批判性寫作來說， 對於題目的核心概念進行挖掘是很必要的。
2) approriate examples, reasons and other evidence考生在提出論點之後，必須尋找相關的、恰當的例證來支援和充實自己的論點。 SAT作文的推理過程遠比推理的結果更重要，因此解釋Why比給出What更重要，考官會通過審視推理過程來判斷考生的邏輯陳述能力。
祕訣二：
Is well organized and clearly focused, demonstrating clear coherence and smooth progression of ideas

1) well organized SAT滿分作文的行文組織要系統，有邏輯性。
2) clearly focused考生在進行SAT寫作時所有的論證和舉例都必須指向中心論點，只有和論點相關的例證才是強有力的。
3) clear coherence and smooth progression 在SAT考試中，考生需要將自己所舉的例證進行一定程度的加工,並按照由主到次、讓步轉折等順序進行排列，這樣能更好顯示出各個例證之間的邏輯關係，讓舉例或是說理論證的過程有層次性。
祕訣三：
Exhibits skillful use of language, using a varied, accurate and aptvocabulary

考生在進行SAT寫作時要使用多樣的、準確的以及恰當的詞彙：
1)varied 考生不需要譁眾取寵的用“大詞、難詞”來顯示詞彙量，而應當對同一概念變化多種表達方式。
2)accurate 在SAT寫作中，用詞要做到準確。
3)apt 考生應當注意使用標準的書面英語，口語化的語言最好不要出現在SAT作文中。
祕訣四：
emonstrates meaningful variety in sentence structure
關鍵詞：variety
用詞和句式的多樣性和變化效能有效地體現考生運用語言的`技巧。考生在進行SAT寫作的過程中，在用詞上要注意多使用同義詞替換，切勿高頻的使用同樣的詞彙。 另外，在句子形式上也要注意長句、短句、簡單句和複雜句的交替使用。
