(1)識別
首先考生需要識別作者在文章中使用了什麼具體的證據形式(facts, statistics, quotations from experts, the results of experiments or other research, examples等)，參考的表達可以是：The author uses/adopts/utilizes/employs 具體的證據形式 to support/buttress/back up/emphasize his/her argument/claim.
(2)內容
為了滿足考試Reading評分的要求，考生需要寫出作者使用的證據的具體內容是什麼。考生可以根據文字內容合理地選用quote、paraphrase或summarize。
? quote: 原文字資訊比較簡單，保留原文字語言風格
? paraphrase：原文字資訊比較繁雜，可以使用自己的語言重新整理
? summarize：原文字資訊內容太長，細節資訊太多
(3)分析
寫出證據內容是什麼後，需要去分析該證據是如何支撐論證作者觀點的。一般來說，考生可以從兩個方面去分析證據：一是作者為什麼這樣寫，這一點比較容易分析，作者使用證據的目的往往是為了更好地論證該自然段或全文的觀點;二是作者這樣寫能夠帶來什麼樣的結果，這對考生來說有一定的難度，需要考生很好地理解文章內容，體會證據在讀者中產生的理性或感性上的共鳴，這一點和語文課上的現代文閱讀分析比較類似，需要考生課下多閱讀多積累。
